Keynote Address: Mary Dozier, Ph.D.

Intervening with young foster children and maltreated children:
attachment and neuroendocrine regulation

Dr. Mary Dozier is the Amy E. duPont Chair of Child Development, Department of Psychology, University of Delaware. She is the Principal Investigator of the Infant Caregiver Project, and has studied the adjustment of young children in foster care for over ten years. Dr. Dozier’s interests are in understanding connections between experience, brain development, behavior and preventive interventions. She has developed an intervention called Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up Intervention (ABCI), which she is researching in a longitudinal study funded by the NIMH, in conjunction with the Children and Youth Division of the Philadelphia Department of Human Services. She will present her research finding on the adjustment of infants and young children who have experienced maltreatment and disruptions in their relationships with caregivers, looking at a range of outcomes, such as the attachments that children form with their caregivers, and their ability to regulate physiology, behavior, and emotions.
